About Is Glendale, AZ a safe area

Is Glendale, AZ a safe area?
I'm moving to Phoenix, and someone recommended Sombra Apartments at 2020 W Glendale Ave. since it's near where I'll be working. It's in the 85201 zip code. I'm a young single female and just don't want to be worried about being shot every time I leave my apt.

Ok thats 19th ave and Glendale pretty much centrally located and very urban but cool though. Now you will see a little homelessness and drug activity and alot of young party goers on weekends because theres a club close by and they often hang out around that intersection after they leave. And Washington high school is at 21st ave and Glendale so you'll see alot of teenagers especially after the friday night football games. But its not Ghetto and that spot you are talking about is kinda low key but close to alot of shopping. Grocery store 2 blocks away,2Malls Metrocenter 2miles north Spectrum mall 1 mile south alot of Jobs especially around Metocenter, I-17 freeway (only 5 blocks away) light rail 1 mile 2hospitals a few large trade schools, Greyhound is on the other side of I-17 about 7 blocks (its a smaller station though) fast food, Theres a park behind that high school and a bowling alley near there. Its not downtown but it offers alot. Phoenix is the 5th largest city so its gonna be fast but people are friendly just try not to wonder around at night by yourself on them back streets. Glendale road is a main Street and your apartsments have security so you cool right there.
Answer 2 :
For me as long as you will take care of yourself and pray always, anywhere in this world is safe.
Answer 3 :
If I were you, I would go around between 83rd - 107th and Glendale. Its a little bit of a drive but much safer and Westgate is right there too. Tons of places to eat, movie theater, bars, and the sport stadiums. It would only be like a 7-10 mile drive to work and wouldnt take too long. But anything around I-17 until you start to head further north is kinda bad. Thats just me, I have lived in AZ all my life and I am 26. Ive lived between Glendale and Peoria. Like the north west part of town.
Answer 4 :
That would not be my first choice for Glendale. It's an older part of town. Also, it's a little too close to the Maryvale section of Glendale (gangs - lots of trouble). You'd be safer and meet nicer people if you can live in the newer parts of town. Who recommended this apartment to you? I'd rather drive a little and be able to sleep well at night. A realtor might be able to help you zero in on something you can afford and fits your criteria.
Answer 5 :
Won't be shot but Arizona is a very very gun friendly state. If you worry about things like that maybe Ca or Chicago or D.C. would be more to your liking
Answer 6 :
I live in Glendale about 20 minutes north of where your apartment is going to be. Glendale I believe for the most part is safe, but as Pepper pointed out anywhere near Maryvale is not so good

14 yr old looking for a job?! (glendale,AZ)?
Okay, so I'm a 14yr old girl looking for any job. I'm at a place in my life right now, that I'm tired of asking my parents to provide for me. and I really need extra money. I'm willing too: - BABYSIT - HOUSE CLEAN - HOUSE SIT - MOW LAWNS - ANY YARD WORK - COOK(not much experience) - BE A PERSONAL ASSISTANT FOR ANY JOB - RUN EXTRA ERRANDS - WASH CARS - ANYTHING ELSE: MESSAGE ME WITH JOB DETAILS. I'm not greedy with how much your willing to pay. I'm willing to receive (for any job) $20 minimum a week. I live in glendale, arizona. ( as stated above ) Transportation is not a problem for me, so I could go outside 10mile radius. I'm very mature for my age, will be willing to set up "interviews" if necessary. I have excellent experience with children being that almost all my siblings are younger than me. I'm very patient. I know how to make bottles, change diapers, etc. No experience with yardwork. BUT IM A QUICK LEARNER. Desperate to find a job! ;) EMAIL: CRonaldoisMine17@yahoo.com :o

You would also have to look at usual places where jobs are being advertised, like online sites, local newspapers, local stores of your area if they need help. Ask your parents and friends for referrals. You can also contact employment Agencies. http://www.groovejob.com/browse/jobs/ http://www.snagajob.com/ http://www.coolworks.com/teen- http://www.teenjobsection.com/jobs-for-16-year-olds.php

About Advice! moving from Arcadia,CA(L.A) to Glendale,AZ

Advice! moving from Arcadia,CA(L.A) to Glendale,AZ?
Hi, here is my situation:) I am considering moving to Glendale, AZ from Arcadia, CA. The house we rented for years was sold for 1 million and it is not feasible at this point to stay in Arcadia- or L.A. due to cost of living/unemployment rates etc.. We have children and tired of struggling. Anyhow my brother-in law and his family live on a lake/golf course (bought the house 7 years ago) in northern part of Glendale,AZ and they really love it. But when I am researching Glendale -I'm reading "drowning kids, violent crimes etc...I worked at a downtown L.A. Emergency room and trauma rooms so I would like to think i'm a down to earth & non-snotty person but when it comes to my children and their safety, education(very important),and oppurtunities.....well, thats where I draw the line. Is Glendale really divided up in parts as for as quality of life (crime etc), because I assumed it was more like a suburb not really a metro area. Also is there enough work out there? Thanks a BUNCH!:)

Answer 1 :
If you are a Nurse, lots of work! Crime, lots of crime! The Westside is always on the news. Drop houses for illegals, shootings, Drugs, really bad. They are trying to do a media cover up. Drowning kids, sorry to say yes because Arizonia does not lock up the parents. They hold car washes and give them money. Like a reward for not watching your kid. They kick in your doors and rob you in your home. Do your home work. Some news stations. Fox 10, KPHO is 2 major stations. Car insurance rates are high!
Answer 2 :
Crime is high. We are number one in the country for: Car thefts, Identity theft. Third in murders and violent crimes. We are ranked 49TH for education in this state. The cost of living is low in general but every thing else is high. We pay high insurance rates than most states. Gas prices are climbing up there to well over $4 a gallon. Hospital jobs pay well out here but if I were you I wouldn't move to Glendale, I would pick an east valley city to life in. Like Gilbert or Chandler.
Answer 3 :
Mrs. tinyiffers, I'm sure there are both wonderful areas and crime-ridden areas in LA too. We are the same here as in any large metropolitan area. Glendale is a suburb of Phoenix. It depends on your personal situation, mainly financially of course. But there are great areas, just as Steven C said. Chandler and Gilbert are the fastest growing cities in Arizona, and it's because of their appeal. As for drowning kids, it is an issue anywhere. It is more exposed here because swimming pools are everywhere in AZ. We live in the desert. When we moved here, we hadn't even moved in before I had my kids signed up for swimming lessons. They are very inexpensive and can be found everywhere. I would recommend that immediately. It just takes being careful and diligent parents. When it comes to work, your chosen field is very much in demand. The pay will be a bit less than LA, but all in all the cost of living is less too. A home that may cost 1M in LA, will probably be around $300 to $400 thousand here.
Answer 4 :
i actually just recently moved to Phoenix Az from Monrovia CA in November. i personally dont think it is that much worse than home. i did notice that the newspapers here report alot more crimes than they do in CA. in CA it has to be something large to get into the paper. here if someone breaks a window its in the morning paper. like the other day i read in the paper that a man walked in on his wife cheating on him. i dont know how important that is? the cost of living is so much more less than CA. i even found a job that pays me alot more than i made in CA. overall i dont think Glendale is too bad. maybe overpopulated but not too bad.
Answer 5 :
If you have worked in an ER, you shouldn't have any problems getting a job. There are TONS of nursing jobs available out here. If you move to Glendale, I would suggest not living anywhere south of Olive Ave. The south part of Glendale is worse than the north part. Up around the Arrowhead area, Bell Road & 83rd Ave is pretty nice. Good luck!
Answer 6 :
Glendale is not a nice suburb. If you want a nice suburb move to Anthem or Queen Creek or Gilbert. Or how about this, stay in California. We don't want anymore bad drivers over here.
Answer 7 :
Hi, you know it depends upon which part of Glendale you live in and it sounds like your brother is in Arrowhead or close by. I live in Glendale in the Bellair area and I've yet to hear of a drop house or illegals in this area. There are those places in the south...so stay north of Thunderbird and East of Sun City and you will be fine. I raised my children here, they didn't drown, they weren't confronted by gunmen and they got an excellent education in the Glendale Union High School System, as a matter of fact they attended a Blue Ribbon School. There is plenty of work for nurses...we have several really good hospitals and depending upon your preference there are geriatrics, children's, Trauma hospitals etc. I also want to say that a lot of people suggest Gilbert or Chandler because they live in those areas, and yes they are new and nice, but I work in Ahwatukee and the traffic is horrendous...I drive the i-17 every day 28 miles and I get to work quicker than people who live 12 miles away, so think about the congestion before you commit to one of those more southern and eastern cities and with the price of gas, if you want to visit your brother, stay on the north side...there is crime everywhere, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, and oh my SCOTTSDALE TOO

Answer 1 :
Of course it's a scam - haven't you been reading about the mortgage crisis - it's these companies that are killing the economy. Honestly, if you had a way to make a billion dollars, would you "help the little man for free" - oh come on - they make more of their money selling you all of these "consultations" and the rate of success is <1% - you're do better to put it on 00 at the roulette wheel.
Answer 2 :
yes, it seems to good to be true. what is it that you are trying to do? are you looking to purchase or refinance?
Answer 3 :
Yup. Bottom line - if you have no down payment or anyone to vouch for you (employer, credit history), you don't belong in your own home. You don't have the resources to weather a problem. Too good to be true is too good to be true.
Answer 4 :
They are/were most likely a loan broker who can no longer fund sub prime loans, for which no credit, no money applications are. This is one reason we are in such a mess right now with the loan market. If you have no credit history, or a bad credit history, you have no money to put down as earnest money, then the chances of you being able to purchase a home now is pretty slim. What I suggest is you spend the next year working on your credit history to improve it. You are going to need a score higher than 600 to be considered for a loan with a decent rate.

Answer 1 :
it is a wonderful area... i lived there until my parents had to movew because of militairy and everyone is so nice. they are awesome people and so friendly. there are alot of churches that parents and kids go to so thewy also learn good morals but now i live in NC which is another great place to raise a family but you dont want to move to a city in NC because that is a terrible place to raise your kid.
Answer 2 :
i live in glendale, and i would say it is much safer than goodyear. the goodyear/avondale area has a real problem with drugs within the last few years. honestly, just about every square mile there is the charred shell of a house that used to be a meth lab. i don't want to scare you, but it is the truth. while there are still some very expensive homes in goodyear, i would not want to live so close to a virtual epidemic. glendale is a great suburb, and we are really experiencing increased property values due to the new stadium
