any great places to visit in sedona, az?
i live in glendale, az and my husband and i want to take a break from work and go to sedona, az. does anyone know of any great places to visit? we dont like mesumes, hiking or camping. we want a romantic break. but we would also like to see places not just stay in some hotel. also, any great hotels? please help me out here. i need to figure out what we will be doing by the end of today. yikes. help me. i dont know anything about sedona. thanks

I'm also from Glendale, AZ and my fiance and I LOVE to get away to Sedona for a day or two. Hotels are REALLY expensive up there. My fiance and I usually stay at the Red Rock Inn. It's not super nice but it's not sleazy either. There are a bunch of little shops and art galleries around Sedona. And there are also several "vortex" sites. We wanted to look into these last time but we didn't get a chance to. You might also want to stop by Jerome on your way back to Glendale. It's considered a "ghost town" but there are people that still live there. It's a tiny little town but it's kind of neat to see a really old town like that. Have fun!

Some of the more moderately priced Hotels in Sedona are located in West Sedona (Route 89A) a mile from the downtown area. Many excellent restaurants in the area. You can take a Red Rocks Jeep tour (2 hours) or take the scenic narrated Trolley tour around Sedona. There's some decent Factory Outlet shops in the Village of Oak Creek (Route 179) which is about 4-5 miles before you get into Sedona. Most of the wonderful Red Rock scenery can be viewed from your car ( the hiking is superb) and by driving North up Oak Creek Canyon (Route 89). The Hampton Inn in West Sedona is nice without breaking the bank.

The Cathedral Rock church is awesome...great view!! You can also see the 3 nuns (rocks that look like nuns). Ther eis also the Snoopy Rock that's pretty cool. Any hiking is awesome and yes, you can pay for a jeep tour to take you around. They are fun!! Sedona is by FAR the best destination in AZ, better than the Grand Canyon (a big hole in the ground) =0)

I love Sedona.. There are a ton of things that you can do there for a romantic break. I once took the guy I was dating there to relax for his birthday and I would highly recommend getting a room at a bed and breakfast. The one that we went to had a fireplace in the room and I had it arranged that when we arrived there would be champagne and chocolate covered fruit in the room waiting. Most B&Bs will do this, and most are very romantic. They usually also have jetted large tubs in the rooms as well. Hotels just are not the same as they do not provide the atmosphere that the inns can. Plus most also include a great breakfast and snacks during the day. The people are super friendly and can also make any arrangements that you need for you. There is a wonderful downtown area that is quaint and westerny. The shopping is wonderful and there are many restaurants to pick from. However, if you like Italian food, I highly recommend a place that I think was called Dahl and Deluca. The atmosphere is romantic and the food is excellent. The Cowboy club is also great and has some interesting food choices. They have prickly pear fries with a dipping sauce that is to die for! Great steakhouse. If you need things to do during the day, definitely consider Pink Jeep tours. This gives you the sightseeing benefit of hiking without the walk :) We did this and it gives you fantastic views you couldn't get otherwise and a ton of photo opportunities. If you like horseback riding, there are ranches in the area that will take you out on trails. Also another way to see the landscape intimately without hiking. Something very romantic I definitely recommend is the Green Canyon Railroad. They have a starlight ride that leaves during dusk, takes you through the canyons and countryside and brings you back under the most starry skies you could imagine. There are open air cars that you can sit in to look up or they also have some cars that are enclosed and have a full bar and appetizers in addition to lounge chairs. When I took this ride, we saw a ton of wildlife including bald eagles. Sedona is a magical place and I think you will have no trouble finding romance and relaxation there. It will suit those that love to be rugged as well as those that want to be pampered. I think you will be surprised (pleasantly) as the drive there is breathtaking as well. If you do drive (assuming you are as there is not many other ways to get there) Stop in Black Canyon City and get some Jack Daniels Pecan Pie ;)

I second the suggestion to visit the "ghost town" of Jerome. It's a wonderful place to spend the day, a night, or a weekend. There are several romantic B&B's in Jerome that are cheaper than the cheap hotels in Sedona. (~$100). My wife and I sometimes go there for our anniversary...and Sedona is our day trip from there. The shopping Jerome is also much less expensive for much of the same stuff. I also have to pass on a groaning comment to the person who simply pasted the list from a Sedona tourist website. What a lazy waste of your time to do that....not respectful at all in my book. FYI, I think they do a home tour in Jerome on the third weekend in May...that's always a fun thing to do. Just google Jerome Arizona and you should find their town website with a list of events. You'll find info on their B&Bs that way too. I would also recommend the third floor rooms of the Jerome Grand Hotel. Admittedly, they are cramped but they open out to a wnderful balcony with an awesome view of the town and the Verde Valley. Oh yeah, the Verde Canyon Railroad is fun and requires no hiking to see great scenery
