Advice! moving from Arcadia,CA(L.A) to Glendale,AZ?
Hi, here is my situation:) I am considering moving to Glendale, AZ from Arcadia, CA. The house we rented for years was sold for 1 million and it is not feasible at this point to stay in Arcadia- or L.A. due to cost of living/unemployment rates etc.. We have children and tired of struggling. Anyhow my brother-in law and his family live on a lake/golf course (bought the house 7 years ago) in northern part of Glendale,AZ and they really love it. But when I am researching Glendale -I'm reading "drowning kids, violent crimes etc...I worked at a downtown L.A. Emergency room and trauma rooms so I would like to think i'm a down to earth & non-snotty person but when it comes to my children and their safety, education(very important),and oppurtunities.....well, thats where I draw the line. Is Glendale really divided up in parts as for as quality of life (crime etc), because I assumed it was more like a suburb not really a metro area. Also is there enough work out there? Thanks a BUNCH!:)

If you are a Nurse, lots of work! Crime, lots of crime! The Westside is always on the news. Drop houses for illegals, shootings, Drugs, really bad. They are trying to do a media cover up. Drowning kids, sorry to say yes because Arizonia does not lock up the parents. They hold car washes and give them money. Like a reward for not watching your kid. They kick in your doors and rob you in your home. Do your home work. Some news stations. Fox 10, KPHO is 2 major stations. Car insurance rates are high!
Answer 2 :
Crime is high. We are number one in the country for: Car thefts, Identity theft. Third in murders and violent crimes. We are ranked 49TH for education in this state. The cost of living is low in general but every thing else is high. We pay high insurance rates than most states. Gas prices are climbing up there to well over $4 a gallon. Hospital jobs pay well out here but if I were you I wouldn't move to Glendale, I would pick an east valley city to life in. Like Gilbert or Chandler.

Mrs. tinyiffers, I'm sure there are both wonderful areas and crime-ridden areas in LA too. We are the same here as in any large metropolitan area. Glendale is a suburb of Phoenix. It depends on your personal situation, mainly financially of course. But there are great areas, just as Steven C said. Chandler and Gilbert are the fastest growing cities in Arizona, and it's because of their appeal. As for drowning kids, it is an issue anywhere. It is more exposed here because swimming pools are everywhere in AZ. We live in the desert. When we moved here, we hadn't even moved in before I had my kids signed up for swimming lessons. They are very inexpensive and can be found everywhere. I would recommend that immediately. It just takes being careful and diligent parents. When it comes to work, your chosen field is very much in demand. The pay will be a bit less than LA, but all in all the cost of living is less too. A home that may cost 1M in LA, will probably be around $300 to $400 thousand here.

i actually just recently moved to Phoenix Az from Monrovia CA in November. i personally dont think it is that much worse than home. i did notice that the newspapers here report alot more crimes than they do in CA. in CA it has to be something large to get into the paper. here if someone breaks a window its in the morning paper. like the other day i read in the paper that a man walked in on his wife cheating on him. i dont know how important that is? the cost of living is so much more less than CA. i even found a job that pays me alot more than i made in CA. overall i dont think Glendale is too bad. maybe overpopulated but not too bad.

If you have worked in an ER, you shouldn't have any problems getting a job. There are TONS of nursing jobs available out here. If you move to Glendale, I would suggest not living anywhere south of Olive Ave. The south part of Glendale is worse than the north part. Up around the Arrowhead area, Bell Road & 83rd Ave is pretty nice. Good luck!
Answer 6 :
Glendale is not a nice suburb. If you want a nice suburb move to Anthem or Queen Creek or Gilbert. Or how about this, stay in California. We don't want anymore bad drivers over here.

Hi, you know it depends upon which part of Glendale you live in and it sounds like your brother is in Arrowhead or close by. I live in Glendale in the Bellair area and I've yet to hear of a drop house or illegals in this area. There are those places in the south...so stay north of Thunderbird and East of Sun City and you will be fine. I raised my children here, they didn't drown, they weren't confronted by gunmen and they got an excellent education in the Glendale Union High School System, as a matter of fact they attended a Blue Ribbon School. There is plenty of work for nurses...we have several really good hospitals and depending upon your preference there are geriatrics, children's, Trauma hospitals etc. I also want to say that a lot of people suggest Gilbert or Chandler because they live in those areas, and yes they are new and nice, but I work in Ahwatukee and the traffic is horrendous...I drive the i-17 every day 28 miles and I get to work quicker than people who live 12 miles away, so think about the congestion before you commit to one of those more southern and eastern cities and with the price of gas, if you want to visit your brother, stay on the north side...there is crime everywhere, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, and oh my SCOTTSDALE TOO
